Visiting Australia
All visitors to Australia except for Australian and New Zealand passport holders, need a visa to enter Australia. The visa will either be in the form of a paper label visa placed in your passport or an electronic authority called the ETA, depending on whether you are a National of an ETA country or not.
If you wish to visit Australia for tourism or a short business trip for a period of less than three months and you are a National of an ETA country, you are eligible to apply for an ETA and do not need to complete a visa application form.
People who hold ETA eligible passports, including Malaysian, Singapore, UK and German passport holders, who wish to apply for a long stay visitor visa (more than 3 months stay), should apply through the internet at http://www.immi.gov.au/e_visa/visitors.htm. To lodge an on-line application, the applicant must hold a passport which is valid for at least 6 months.
Visitors from non-ETA countries not specified on the e676 Eligible Passports list, must lodge an application form 48R for tourism or form 456 for short business visits of less than 3 months, at the Australian High Commission.

Important – Changes to Tourist (e676) and eStudent eVisa forms
from 26 April 2008
From 26 April 2008 the Department of Immigration and Citizenship will implement changes to the e676 and Student eVisa forms (both the online and offline eforms). The eVisa forms available on the Internet will be changed to contain additional questions on Health and Character. To avoid any unnecessary delays in processing, you are encouraged to complete all of the additional information prior to lodging your application online. -
Persons who wish to visit Australia for medical treatment should complete and lodge form 48ME at the Australian High Commission.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS OFFICE DOES NOT PROCESS VISITOR VISA AND SHORT STAY BUSINESS VISAS ON THE SPOT. TO CHECK FOR PROCESSING TIMES, PLEASE REFER TO THE CHECKLISTS FOR VISITOR VISA AND SHORT STAY BUSINESS VISAS.
In addition, persons who wish to apply for a visitor visa at the Australian High Commission, need to complete a Visitor visa supplementary questionnaire, if they are not Malaysian residents.
Do I need to undergo health checks?
Please refer to Form1163(i) for information.

Health requirement for temporary entry to Australia - Form 1163i Travellers who are over 70 years of age should submit a medical proforma which has been completed by an appointed Australian Immigration panel doctor. A copy of the medical Proforma is available from the visa section and will be provided to visa applicants where necessary.
People wishing to stay in Australia for business purposes for more than 3 months must apply for a long stay temporary business visa.
Maids working in Malaysia, seeking to accompany their employer on holiday to Australia, are required to apply for a visitor visa. Application form 48R should be lodged together with the visa application charge, a letter from their employer and a valid Malaysian re-entry visa which allows them to return to work at the end of their visit to Australia.
How much money should I have for a holiday in Australia?
While there is no set amount of money, visitors should have enough funds to support them for their entire holiday depending on their circumstances. For instance, visitors who stay with friends or family would not be expected to have the same amount as visitors who will need to pay for their accommodation. Another example, where lesser amounts would be acceptable , is where people on package tours, have paid for most of their expenses prior to travelling.
Visitors are not expected to carry cash as evidence that they have sufficient funds - they can have credit cards, travellers cheques or access to international banking through ATM (Automated Teller Machine) cards.
