2008 ENDEAVOUR AWARDS PRESENTATION
BACKGROUND ON THE ENDEAVOUR AWARDS
Endeavour Programme
-
The Endeavour Programme was established as part of the 2003 International Education package Engaging the World Through Education to bring high achieving students, researchers and professionals from around the world to Australia to undertake short or long term study, research and professional development in a broad range of disciplines. It also enables Australians to do the same abroad.
-
It aims to strengthen education linkages between Australia and the region by supporting high achieving students and professionals and showcasing Australia’s excellence in the education, science and training sectors.
-
It is part of the government’s $1.4 billion Australian Scholarships initiative, announced in April 2006. Under Australian Scholarships, the Endeavour Programme received $185.5 million new funding, bringing the total value of the programme to $276 million.
-
The Endeavour Programme will provide approximately 9,000 scholarships over five years from July 2006, of which nearly half will be for outgoing Australians.
-
The scholarships are a mix of postgraduate, undergraduate, vocational and technical education courses, and research and professional development awards. They are open to all fields of study.
-
The selection of Endeavour awardees follows a competitive and merit-based process, with eligible applications being assessed by panels of academics and professionals.
-
Total value of Australian Scholarships for Malaysia between 2006 and 2011 stands at A$31.55 million (RM95 million).
-
The total value of funding for the 2008 round is at A$965,000 (RM2.8 million).
