Checklist for Application for Australian Citizenship by Descent
Processing time : Minimum 10 working days
Form 118 completed, signed and dated. This form may be printed from our website at www.immi.gov.au
Visa application charge payable by cheque, bank draft or money order in favour of the "Australian High Commission". If paying in person at the Visa Office, payment may also be made by cash or credit card (Visa or Mastercard only)
Evidence to Accompany Application

Evidence that applicant is a natural child of an Australian Citizen. You must provide the originals and also copies of these documents for our verification.

Full birth certificate of applicant (please turn over for instruction on translation) or
-
if not able to provide the full birth certificate a DNA test will be required; and
-
One passport size photo endorsed on the back by the person who is declaring the proof of identity at Question 31 of Form 118.

Evidence of change of name (If applicable). You must provide the originals and also copies of these documents for our verification

Marriage certificate (eg: change from maiden name to matrimonial name)

Deed poll

Statutory declaration & at least 2 documents evidencing usage of new name or

Other acceptable evidence

Evidence that a parent was an Australian citizen at the time of the applicant's birth. You must provide the originals and also copies of these documents for our verification.

Full birth certificate if born in Australia

Certificate of Australian citizenship or

Australian passport issued on or after 22/11/1984 of full validity

Father’s passport - Original passport and copy of the identity page of the father's passport and every stamped page of the passport.

Mother’s passport (mandatory) - Original passport and copy of the identity page of the mother's passport and every stamped page of the passport that was used to enter the country at time of the birth of the child

Evidence of Character

Penal check from all countries where the applicant has resided in the past 10 years (except Australia) for applicants over 18 years of age

Marriage certificate
Any documents not in English must include an English translation. Translations can be obtained through:

Please note that if you do not use these organisations to obtain translations, the translation must be completed by an official translator who is qualified in the field. It should be evident from their translation that they are an official translator in Malaysia.
HOW TO LODGE YOUR APPLICATION
Applications should be lodged at least 2 weeks prior to the intended date of departure, to the Australian High Commission Visa office between the hours 8:30am to 12:00noon, Monday to Friday. We also accept mailed and couriered applications. Applications are processed according to the above processing times.
