Australian Declaratory Visa

Everyone entering Australia is required to show evidence of his or her right to do so. Australian citizens should normally use an Australian passport to enter Australia.

In certain circumstances an Australian citizen who is a dual national but does not hold an Australian passport, may be entitled to an Australian declaratory visa. An Australian Declaratory visa is a return document placed in your foreign passport to identify you as an Australian citizen.

To qualify for an Australian declaratory visa, an Australian citizen must not hold an Australian passport and be either under 18 years of age or be in an emergency or other compelling situation preventing them from travelling on an Australian passport.

To apply for an Australian Declaratory visa, an applicant must complete a form 931, submit a valid travel document and provide evidence that they are an Australian citizen and pay a processing fee.
